What you Should Wear during Training
Your outfit during your training time should be something comfortable. Sweatpants, a hoodie, and gloves would be a great outfit for training on the ice. But, you could also wear a tank top instead of a hoodie if you get warm. When you're training for a competition, you want to wear something you're comfortable in. Then once you get close to the end of your competition training, you would want to practice your skating in your costume. You should do this because you need to get use to wearing your costume while you're skating. If you don't practice with your competition outfit on, something may go wrong with your costume in the show.
Girls
Skaters normally get to pick their own costume for a show, with some rules. Sometimes, they may have certain directions from their coach about what costume to get. The costume for a female can be a dress, with skin colored tights underneath. They can choose to make their own costume if they want. The skaters can choose an expensive, beaded costume or just something simple that will cost less money. But, all figure skating costumes cost lots of money either way. It may cost thousands of dollars to get one professionally designed. Girls also wear make-up and get their hair done for shows and competitions. Some people say that this is a part of their costume. The picture below shows you a picture of what a girl's costume would look like.
Guys
Guy's costumes are much simpler than girls. They must wear trousers and they are not allowed to wear tights. Although, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure_skating at the 2012 Skate Canada International, officials decided to not take away points from Robin Szolkowy after he violated the rule about men wearing tights. So, as you can see in the picture to the right, guys costumes are very simple compared to girls.
