Michelle Kwan
Michelle Kwan is known as America’s most popular figure skater. She is a two-time Olympic medalist, a five-time World Champion, and a nine-time U.S. champion. Her interest in figure skating developed at the age of five because of her two older siblings that skated. Michelle started serious training at eight years old, the year of 1988. From 1991 until 2006, she competed in so many different competitions and won lots of awards. She was even in the Olympics from 1998-2002. In August 2009, Michelle Kwan made her first appearance on the ice in several years.
Tara Lipinski
Tara Lipinski is an American figure skater that is the youngest gold medalist in the history of Winter Olympic Games. She earned this title in the Winter Olympic Games of 1998 at the age of only fifteen years old. Lipinski started figure skating at the age of six. When she was eight years old, she competed in her first competition and placed second. The following year(when she was nine years old), Tara won primary girls freestyle. She has won so many competitions and has became the youngest person to win titles so many times. But, Michelle Kwan seems to have beat her in a lot of competitons. Tara would come in second to Michelle most of the time. Then at the 1998 Winter Olympics, Michelle beat Tara in the short program and Tara beat Michelle in the long program. This was the time when Tara Lipinski became the youngest gold medalist in the History of Winter Olympic Games. After she recieved that title in 1998, Tara told everyone that she would not be continuing in the World Figure Skating Championships.
Carolina Kostner
Carolina Kostner is an Italian figure skater who started skating in 1990. Later that year, she won a bronze medal at Junior Worlds and she became the first Italian figure skater to even win a medal there. Two other competitions she went to, she placed fifth place. That was at the 2004 European Championships and the 2004 World Championships. Carolina has gone to so many different competitions and championships throughout her life. In those different events, she placed differently and has recieved bronze, silver, and gold medals. In 2011, Carolina Kostner was deciding whether or not she should continue with her skating career because of her bad experience in the Olympics.
