What is Training?
Training is basically practicing and improving your skating. Physically being on the ice or just working out and increasing your strength, is all a part of your training. Practicing your tricks and new moves on-ice can really help improve your skating. If you don't have time to practice on the ice, you can do stretches off-ice to improve your flexibility. Also, you can practice your jumps off the ice to get more speed and height. You can learn more about training in the paragraphs below.
Balance
Balancing is a big part of skating because you need it for pretty much everything you do. A lot of skating moves(including the one in the picture) are on one foot. You're on one foot when you are going into the air to jump, doing some spins, landing jumps and more. Some people have natural balance and some don't. Those who don't, need to practice and that's what training is for. It doesn't matter if you're training on ice or off ice, you can simply stand on one foot and it will improve your balance. Another way that can help your balance when you're off ice is walking on a balance beam, a bench, etc.
Flexibility
Flexibility is also very important to all figure skaters because in order to do skating jumps and spins, you need to be flexible. Doing stretches while your training is a good idea if you want to become more flexible. Some stretches that would help are: doing the splits, lifting your leg high in the air and holding it there for about a minute, etc. This type of training needs to be done before and after you skate. If that doesn't happen, you risk getting hurt and having an injury.
Ballet
Ballet is nesessary in a figure skater's training because it helps you improve your skating, strength, and flexibility. It also helps your posture. Posture is important because a skater needs a strong core to perform all of the upper and lower body movements. Another reason why ballet is important to figure skaters is because it improves your balance. In both figure skating and ballet, your weight shifts to one side at times and you need be able to balance yourself there. Or when you're skating on one foot, you need good balance for that. Ballet will also help the skater with their rotations on the ice, and quickly changing direction and edges.
